If you missed it… (and most of you did!)… the If you missed it… (and most of you did!)… the September meeting was our first true - in person - Chapter Gathering back at the airport. 👯‍♀️🕺🏼 Our guest speaker, Mr. Steve Sorge, gave a very interesting talk about some local aviation history and the back ground of his one-of-a-kind, custom, Stearman Speedmail Special. And the really cool part was he also brought along his airplane for us to see close up. ✈️👀
After the presentation everyone enjoyed a nice lunch of grilled hamburgers 🍔 and hotdogs🌭. I know I am looking forward to more in-person events back at the airport as we move forward. ⏩

Last month, two EAA Chapters, usually just yards a Last month, two EAA Chapters, usually just yards apart @oshkoshairaventure, but 8700 miles apart in real life, joined forces to create a unique monthly gathering. On February 13th, Chapters 932, @galtairport Illinois and @eaa322, Johannesburg, South Africa, who normally camp across the road from each other in Camp Scholler, took advantage of the pandemic restrictions to create a somewhat different zoom gathering. Presentations were created on both sides of the Atlantic depicting chapter activities, aircraft, projects and personalities. It was wonderful to share and learn from a chapter situated virtually on the other side of the world!

Favorite Fly-in restaurants in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin
Over the past year, many of our favorite places have done their best to keep serving our flying community. To some, it has been a tough run in the present environment. The bottom line is that they need our support if we want to continue to enjoy the ambiance of “food on the fly” for years to come. As the weather starts to warm up, why not plan a fly-out to visit one of these neat places? The hundred dollar hamburger is still out there for those who wish to chase it down. Here’s an update on some favorite fly out destinations in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. Let’s go flying!
🛫
@bessiesdiner at Janesville-Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport – Janesville, WI (KJVL)
✈️
@charliesrestaurant1c5 at Clow International Airport (1C5) – Bolingbrook, IL (1C5) – open 7 days a week from 7am to 3 pm – seating to 50% capacity – food and service is excellent!
🍔
Edge of Town Café at Palmyra Airport (88C) – Palmyra, WI – open 7 days a week from 6 am to 2 pm – this is a neat little family restaurant with great food at a great price – the restaurant is located off the airport property, but is an easy walk just to the south of the airport – located on the main road that runs through Palmyra. Palmyra has a grass strip that is 2800’ x 200’. It is nicely groomed, and easy to fly into.
🌮
@flightdeckgrillandbar Flight Deck Grill at Rochelle Airport (KRPJ) – Rochelle, IL this is a really cool place to check out – When the weather is nice, there is outdoor seating on a patio. On weekends, the Chicago Skydive Center is brimming with activity, and people can sit back and enjoy watching all the skydiving action.
🪂
Pat O’Malley’s Jet Room – Madison Dane County Airport (KMSN) – Madison, WI –
✈️
@pilot_petes_ Schaumburg Regional Airport (06C) – Schaumburg, IL Pilot Pete’s is an all-time favorite destination for many of us and has been closed for a while, but by the looks of their website, hopefully they will be up and running soon!
👩🏻‍✈️

Come enjoy a mid-winter drive-in movie and bonfire Come enjoy a mid-winter drive-in movie and bonfire at your favorite airport! Watch a family-friendly movie from the comfort of your vehicle. We’ll even provide complementary hot chocolate! Then join with friends around the roaring bonfire. Plan to arrive around 3:30. The movie will begin just after 5. The fun will last ’till only embers are left. Bundle up – but leave the bug repellent at home. We guarantee there’ll be no mosquitos!
